Note from Croakey on 12 October: This crowdfunding campaign has been withdrawn as it was not receiving sufficient support.
Readers of Croakey will know Dr Lesley Russell, a longstanding Croakey contributor and editor whose razor sharp analyses, in-depth policy knowledge and political insights make even the most complex health issue understandable.
Lesley has been particularly generous with her time and expertise to Croakey over the years ad has recently taken over responsibility for producing The Health Wrap, one of Croakey’s most popular and widely used resources.
Readers who have benefitted from Lesley’s high quality work at Croakey might be interested to know she is currently running a crowdfunding campaign to enable her to report for Croakey from a landmark global health meeting in Bangladesh from November 15-19 – the 4th Peoples’ Health Assembly – or #PHA4.
One of our goals at Croakey is to broaden the health debate to include global issues and the role that Australia can play in improving the health and well-being of all people, not just that within our borders.
This meeting would be a terrific opportunity for us to meet this goal and bring our readers news and analysis about global developments in the 40 years since the famous Alma Ata declaration on the importance of primary healthcare.
Lesley would do a fantastic job in making the issues discussed at the meeting relevant and accessible for Croakey’s readers. She is particularly keen to cover public health issues such as the impact of climate change and associated natural disasters and infectious diseases increasingly resistant to antibiotics. Read about the objectives of the Assembly here.
Please consider supporting this campaign if you have an interest in any of these issues and/or would like a way to recognise the important work being done by Lesley and the Croakey team.
