The Federal Budget will be delivered in the shadow of global turmoil, and ahead of President Trump’s so-called “Liberation Day” on 2 April, when the United States is expected to announce more details of its tariff plans.
While commentators are not expecting any big surprises from the Budget, its detail and surrounding commentary, including the Opposition Leader’s budget reply speech (described in one newspaper headline as ‘Dutton’s last shot at redemption’), provide important context for the upcoming election.
Regardless of what the Government, Opposition and other political parties do and say, the budget time of year remains an important opportunity for advocacy for health, and for listening to a range of stakeholder about their priorities.
Our coverage of pre-budget submissions follows below. Tonight the Budget papers will be available from about 7.30pm AEDT.
