Dear Readers
We are writing to invite you to join members of the Croakey team for some walking journalism in and around the town of Kandos, NSW on the beautiful Country of the Dabee people of the Wiradjuri Nation, on the weekend of 30 November/1 December.
It will be an opportunity to discuss important health matters, and to enjoy making connections. More details are below, and you can also download a flyer.
Reflections
People can participate in real life, and by following the discussions online, via social media. Below, colleagues reflect upon their previous #CroakeyGO experiences…

While each #CroakeyGo is unique, there is a throughline that connects each event that is important to highlight.
Each #CroakeyGo builds on the one before, has a foundation in the values of Croakey Health Media and gives space for creativity and movement as core to the approach.
Whether I can attend in person or follow along online or simply read the after-article, #CroakeyGo always makes me feel like I am part of a broader Public Health movement. A space for change, for individuals, communities, Public Health as a profession and Australia as a whole.
Taking a step outside of the normal and often quite boring public health knowledge moments is a risk worth taking.
Take a risk on #CroakeyGo, you won’t regret it.

Walking journalism. public health perambulation, mindful meandering, moving conversations, connecting with Country… CroakeyGo has been all these things to me and more.
I’m a big fan of the unplugged walk – moving through the landscape and watching and listening to its stories, creating new stories, and, of course, doing so in good company.
It’s been a few years since the opportunity arose to participate in one of these events, so I’m looking forward to strapping on my boots and squeezing into my yellow shorts for a collective ramble with the Croakeys on beautiful Wiradjuri Country.
A few highlights from past CroakeyGo events:
- Insights on #KaurnaCountry with Tirritpa Ritchie in the built and natural environment around Karrawirra Parri (the river Torrens).
- The opportunity to reflect on the history, lives and ongoing challenges of those of us living on the Cadigal and Wangal Lands of the Eora Nation, as we traversed the familiar terrain of Sydney’s Inner West.
- Getting lost and making unexpected connections in Albury as we walked beside Milawa Billa (the Murray River) – when we eventually found it.

There’s nothing like a CroakeyGO – part walk, part landscape, part community – cultural learning, grassroots activism, book club and mini conference, always place-based and health-focused to the core. This will be a special one.
The back story
Below are links to photographs, interviews, and reports from previous events covering topics ranging from mental healthcare pathways to helping urban communities adapt to heatwave risks, and the cultural determinants of health. Have a read around.
