If Big Food makes a buck out of obesity, it should have to pay for it. Why does the tax-payer have to pay for the medical bills of ‘Big Food’s’ clients. Two options – they pay a levy on the profits from the junk they produce (a bit like the carbon tax) or there is a broader tax that is put on junk food, which leaves it to the end consumer to pay for (a bit like Denmark). I’d rather the former, as it puts the issue in Big Food’s court where it primarily belongs.
