Welcome to a column for those who don’t have time or inclination for Twitter-scrolling.
This week, we report on the climate crises of extreme heat and fires affecting millions of people across the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States and elsewhere. Some people are cautioning against using the term “new normal”, warning that conditions will not stay the same but can be expected to worsen. Clear messages are presented on the urgent need to move away from fossil fuels.
We also preview Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, and feature some new books, public health and justice news, as well as tweet reports from recent events on health equity and leadership.
