We are members and directors of Croakey Health Media, a social journalism organisation that works to support the health and wellbeing of people, families, communities, societies and the environment.
We thank the people who gave so much of themselves to develop the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which we see as a profound document that will surely move Australia towards reconciliation with its past, and a far better future.
We acknowledge, as the Uluru Statement from the Heart says, that ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tribes were the first sovereign Nations of the Australian continent and its adjacent islands, and possessed it under our own laws and customs’.
Voice to Parliament
We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart’s call for the establishment of a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Australian Constitution.
We support, as the Uluru Statement from the Heart suggests, ‘a Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making between governments and First Nations and truth-telling about our history’.
We call on the Australian Parliament to support a referendum to enshrine a First Nations Voice to Parliament in the Constitution.
We call on the Australian people to support the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and to support the movement towards a better future. We ask you to demonstrate your support by:
- familiarising yourself with the statement
- calling your local state and federal members of parliament asking them to support the statement
- sharing the statement on social media
- talking to your friends and colleagues about the statement.
