***UPDATED Tues 23 May 2017***
Dear Croakey community
The Croakey team are planning to go for a stroll in Sydney on Saturday 27 May, and wondered if you’d like to join us.
It will be a “walking meeting” of sorts — a time to talk about important issues that impact on health, and to brainstorm how Croakey could be covering them better.
It will also be an example of #CroakeyGo in action — a time to enjoy a section of our beautiful harbour city, reflect on its past and present, connect with each other and move our bodies through the rejuvenating bush and parkland, while paying our respects to the Traditional Owners.
With these aims in mind we’ve selected the much-loved 10km Manly to the Spit walk, starting at Manly.
For those who can’t do the whole walk, we’re also planning a picnic at Clontarf Reserve along the way. It’s accessible by car and public transport, so you’re welcome to drop in for lunch with us or even for a shorter walk along the boardwalks to the Spit.
Here’s the plan
Saturday 27 May, 10.00am: Meet in the square outside the Manly Sealife aquarium to start the walk.
12.00pm: Clontarf Reserve for a picnic
1.00pm: Resume walk to the Spit, for bus back to Manly
BYO comfy shoes, lunch and drinks. Don’t forget your phone (in case you want to share some #CroakeyGo vibe via Twitter).
Here’s a link to some info about this walk.
And to a map of the route.
***UPDATE***
Croakey “road tested” the walk recently, and confirmed that it is an easy three-hour walk with a number of sections that include stairs. A large section of bushland passes through Sydney Harbour National Park. There are possible detours through the streets for those with wheelchairs, prams or dogs but unfortunately this would involve significant time away from the rest of the group.
If you plan to attend, do let us know by dropping an email via this website (see link at bottom of this page), or ping us on Twitter.
Regards,
Dr Ruth Armstrong and the Croakey Team
